Drum Making workshop

We use a beautifully hand crafted 15 inch circular pine hoop from Shaah’s favourite supplier Jalquin in Victoria. An ethically prepared goat skin (processed due to overpopulation in the Flinders Ranges) is sewn onto the hoop. The skins are prepared carefully, and not over processed, so they retain a beautiful deep resonance once dry.

Saturday 17th May

Shaah has been trained in The Lakota tradition of drum making where drums are made in pairs. This is the perfect creative practice to deepen self-awareness and learn about yourself. There is something special in finding our rhythms when weaving our creativity with another.

The drum making process works in pairs but there is no need to bring a partner as you pair up with someone else on the day. One drum is made in the morning and the other in the afternoon.

Everyone goes home having bought a new drum into being.
