To Fungi or not to Fungi…
Fungi are a diverse group of eukaryotic organisms including yeast, molds and mushrooms
They are not plants or animals but rather form their own kingdom of life.
Fungi play a crucial role in ecosystems including decomposition, nutrient cycling and forming beneficial relationships with plants.
They are also both beneficial and harmful impacts on humans serving as a food sour e and also for medicins BUT also causing infections and other medical issues like ringworm and athlete’s foot.
What are some of the commonly found fungi at the Park?
Fly agaric (Amanita muscaria) - this iconic fungus is easily recognizable by its bright red cap with white spots. Normally located around pine trees
Coral fungi (Ramaria sp) - these fungi have branching, coral like structures and come in various colours.
Hygrocybe Julietae - this type is a type of waxcap mushroom
