The Portal Project by Marcus Tatton

‘Portal’

A stainless steel cable is tensioned between concrete anchors dug in to the sides of the Canyon.  The cable is supported with steel pipe uprights along the length of cable, at 2 meter intervals.  The circular portal would measure 3.5m in diameter.  There would be a steel archway concealed within the portal to support the wood pieces.  However the steel archway is n shaped, not circle shaped.  This means that the wood near the ground is not fixed into the structure, rather these lower pieces of firewood are readily removed as access is required sporadically through the driveway.

The intrigue of this piece is that it looks as though it has cut off the roadway, and indeed it does during sculptural times, so the pedestrians will need to step through the ‘Portal’ during their walk.
