The Portal Project

The Portal Project shows that from destruction of nature there can be new life. Conifer Canyon which was destroyed in Cyclone Gabrielle and what was once a stretch of strong trees and vegetation became a barren sad stretch of land.

Marcus Tatton is creating a new art piece using the destroyed trees and giving a new meaning to the area with the Portal Project.

Portal is of the Phoenix.

This is the rebuilding after the massive destruction from Cyclone Gabriel in Feb 2023. The trees that were tipped and ripped from the canyon sides were planted there 30 years earlier and so well established for perpetuity…

Portal is the rebirthing of One’s Own experience. Of One’s Own consciousness.

This is the re ordering from an initial sense of Chaos. The wind thrown trees are reordered into a giant Land Art intervention. This construction system has been innovated by the Artist over recent decades, in sculpture statements around the world. This is the echo from the chaos of the Quarry. Thirty years hence we continue the vision of Dorothy and John Wakeling to rebirth the land, internal and beyond… through Art and Arboretum…
